Mr. William Coolidge of Natick, Miss Nellie Wilson, and Mrs. James D. Macewen, solicited funds to establish the Natick VNA, whose original purpose was “to provide the services of a trained nurse for all sick people otherwise unable to procure them, and to promote the welfare of the family by instructions in the simple rules of health and sanitation.”

Mr. Macewen furnished a horse, carriage, sleigh and coachman for two years to carry the agency’s first nurse, Miss Nellie Daniels, to patients when the weather was inclement or the distance was too far for her to walk.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1914″]Natick VNA was incorporated by the Commissioner of Corporations under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts “to give to the sick, and especially those of limited means, the service of a trained nurse and to give instructions in home nursing and wholesome living.”[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1922″]Natick VNA’s services expanded to include dentistry until the Town of Natick took over that service in 1954.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1926″]Volunteers completed a house-to-house canvas of the town, which raised $1,817 in donations. This represented half of the agency’s annual budget.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1948″]Natick VNA moves into its first permanent office (where?)[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1952″]Mr. Charles G. Bancroft of Framingham donated a family home at 33 West Central Street in Natick, as a gift to the Natick VNA.

This historic property was also the residence of Henry Wilson, the 22nd Vice President of the United States.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1966″]Became certified to provide care to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1984″]Natick VNA automates its financial and billing systems.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1991″]Natick VNA moves into West Central Street, Natick, headquarters.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1994″]Became the first home care provider in Massachusetts to use laptop computers to document patient health data as they were treated in their homes.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1995 – 2000″]Participated in the Medicare Prospective Payment Demonstration Project, which led to the nationally adopted prospective payment system for home health care under the Medicare program.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1998 – 2001″]Earned Commendation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accreditation.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”2000″]Provided more than $500,000 in unsubsidized care and medical equipment to patients without sufficient medical coverage.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”2001″]Became CHAP-accredited.
